The 2020 Shizuko Yoshikawa Art Prize was awarded to LORENZA LONGHI (*1991 Lecco, lives and works in Zurich).

Lorenza Longhi

Der zweijährlich von der Shizuko Yoshikawa und Josef Müller-Brockmann Stiftung vergebene Shizuko Yoshikawa Lorenza Longhi has received the 2020 Shizuko Yoshikawa Art Prize, awarded every two years by the Shizuko Yoshikawa and Josef Müller-Brockmann Foundation. Lorenza Longhi graduated from the visual arts course at ECAL in Lausanne in 2018. The artist is the second winner of the prize, which is endowed with 25,000 CHF. The prize is aimed at young female artists and is intended to facilitate the initial phase of their artistic career.

Jury Statement
The jury commends Longhi’s engagement with the socially constructed codes of our (built) everyday world. Through both the media deployed and the content, her work evokes a range of references from the history of art and design, making precise use of viewers’ expectations and associations to deconstruct these. The jury was convinced by the way in which Longhi’s approach targets society and questions of value production, while simultaneously reflecting on the formats of artistic work and its distribution mechanisms.
