Public Award Ceremony Preisverleihung
Josef Müller-Brockmann prize for young designers 2019
Wednesday 6 November 2019, 06:30pm, Vortragssaal Museum für Gestaltung, Ausstellungsstrasse 60, 8005 Zürich
Together with the recipients of the generous CHF 25,000 prize, shared this year by Nina Paim (Bern University of the Arts, HKB) and Simon Mager (École cantonale d’art de Lausanne, ECAL), the legacy of the great designer will be celebrated at the award ceremony of the first Josef Müller-Brockmann Promotional Prize for Young Designers 2019.
Müller-Brockmann (1914-1996) was a pioneer of Swiss graphic design in the 1950s and 1960s and had a major influence on the so-called «Swiss Style,» which spread internationally. He became world famous with his posters for the Zurich Tonhalle. In Switzerland, the appearance and orientation system of the SBB bear witness to the impact of his work.
The award ceremony on November 6, 2019 will be moderated by Jonas Voegeli and Lars Müller. Internationally renowned designer Linda Van Deursen, former head of the graphic design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and visiting professor at the Yale School of Art and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, will give a talk on the current and future direction of master’s programs in design.
On the occasion of the award ceremony, the Museum für Gestaltung and the Shizuko Yoshikawa and Josef Müller-Brockmann Foundation present for the first time two 5-part facsimile editions of posters by Müller-Brockmann.
